The idea
Every card you place is a new restaurant. If it's the uniquely highest or lowest in its row or column, the rest of that street goes out of business and flips face down — until a newcomer reopens them. You're bouncing between rows and columns, putting out fires, trying to end with sixteen open shops.
Setup
- Take out the face cards. Shuffle the 40 number cards and hold them face down.
- Put the first card anywhere on the table to start the grid.
How to play
- Draw a card and play it face up — either as a new pile next to an existing one (not diagonally), or on top of an existing pile.
- The grid can never be more than 4 piles wide or tall, and a pile holds at most 4 cards.
- Look along the card's row. If it's the uniquely highest or lowest face-up top card there (or the only one), flip the top card of every other pile in that row. Face-down cards flip up, face-up cards flip down.
- Then do the same check for its column.
- Ace is 1. Face-down cards are ignored when comparing.
Winning, losing and score
- You win
- Finish a full 4×4 grid with every top card face up.
- You lose
- More than four piles show face-down tops after a turn, or you can't legally place a card, or you run out of cards.
- Score
- Cards left in the deck.
