The Sandwich Guy

Discard three cards at a time as evenly spaced “sandwiches” — and don't run out.

The idea

You run a famous food truck and the ingredients never stop coming. Every turn you must make a sandwich: three cards where the middle one sits exactly between the other two. Matching suits earn you more ingredients back; sloppy, mixed-color sandwiches shrink your hand until you're locked out. A quick, light filler.

Setup

  1. Shuffle the deck face down.
  2. Draw 8 cards as your hand.
  3. Leave room for a discard pile.

How to play

  • Discard exactly 3 cards that make a sandwich: arranged in order, the gap from the first to the second equals the gap from the second to the third.
  • Ace is 1, Jack 11, Queen 12, King 13, and values wrap around from King to Ace — so Q, A, 3 (gaps of 2 through K and A) is fine.
  • Three of the same rank is a sandwich too (gaps of 0). The gaps must be equal, so 8, 10, 8 is not one.
  • Draw replacements based on the sandwich's suits: all one suit, draw 4; one color but mixed suits, draw 3; mixed colors, draw 2.
  • You can never hold more than 8 cards — any extra draws are skipped.

Winning, losing and score

You win
Draw the last card of the deck. Then keep making sandwiches (no more draws) until you can't.
You lose
You can't make a sandwich from your hand.
Score
Cards left in your hand at the end — lower is better. One card is a perfect game.

Tips

  • You may look through the discard pile, and through the deck as long as you shuffle it after.
  • Any valid sandwich can be reordered so its gaps are 6 or less, which makes them easier to spot.
  • Mixed-color sandwiches cost you hand size. Use same-suit sandwiches to build it back up — but watch the 8-card limit.
